CORE VALUES

Core Values of Pastor Melvin E. Barnett

The information below will assist you in understanding my values and what distinguishes us from many other ministries.

We are a New Beginning

Take a bold step and start your life over again at Mt. Beulah.  At the center of the Gospel is the message of Hope and Reconciliation.  Many times people feel there is no hope for the future, and depression and other problems set in.  Today, there is hope.  No matter who you are, no matter where you are, and no matter what you have done in the past, there is hope.  Despite loneliness, feelings of desperation and perhaps suicidal thoughts you will find hope, peace and a new beginning at Mt. Beulah.  We are a Church of second chances.  So many of us falter and have weaknesses that hold us down -- personal faults, habits, and temptations that continually knock us down, but we minister a Gospel that offers not only hope but deliverance.

Jesus Christ, He who first loved us and gave his life for us, desires that we ALL be made whole by the power of the Holy Spirit.  The soul cleansing power of the Holy Spirit, the acceptance of Jesus Christ prepares each of us for a NEW BEGINNING with ourselves, friends and family as well as our new relationship with God Almighty.

We are made Whole

The love of our Eternal Father in heaven makes us not only spiritually whole, but mentally and physically as well.  God wants to heal the mind and body of all his children.  God wants to supernaturally touch you and heal you of affliction.  The Lord wants each of us to enjoy good health as well as serving as a living testimony of his greatness through His healing power.  Just as any parent seeks attention for their children in a time of crisis, hurt or sickness, God extends His mercy to each of us by offering healing if we would simply have faith.  However, we must not forget that when we were born the second time around (Salvation) we became eternal beings and too often we put our focus on the things of this earth, including healing.  Healing, wealth and success can all be enjoyed by many on earth, but for others, healing, and the others desires of life may come as we are glorified with a new body.

We are Family First

At the heart of our ministry is family unity in Christ.  We believe that the continual demise of the family is destroying our nation.  We feel it is vital that we, the church, begin to address issues that will assist parents in preserving their own relationships while strengthening love and discipline toward their children that they, too, will grow in the knowledge of God's Word and lead healthy and productive lives as they mature.   To combat many domestic issues we offer counseling and support along with Bible-based Christian family workshops. Bible-centered education on marriage and divorce is much needed since statistics tell us that 3 out 5 marriages end in divorce.

The single parent brings to the church many special needs as well.  We feel that the church, not the government, should be the center of strength and support for that individual and their children.  We will strive to convey God's perfect love, Bible-centered education, and assistance to those that are in need of direction and support.

Another way to help families is by supporting fellowship in small peer units.  Though the church is instrumental in a family’s spiritual welfare, a personal walk with God is determined by the time that is given to Him privately in prayer, Bible study, and meditation. Many churches have services or special programs nearly every night of the week; but we believe that families are better strengthened when they spend quality time at home together along with the regularly scheduled church services.  Families should be encouraged to worship together, too, instead of being segregated by age or gender as many programs in the church seek to do.  Parents should always be respected as the authority over their own children.

We are Community Minded

We are open to any person regardless of race, creed, or color.  All mankind are descendents of Adam and Eve making each of us Brothers and Sisters in God's sight.  We believe the church to be an asset to the community, not a stumbling block nor a haven for those with bigotry in their hearts.

We are Mission Minded

We believe in the spreading of the Gospel by those that are called of God into the mission field.  It is necessary to support missionaries that labor for the Kingdom through their calling.  They should be uplifted in prayer as well as supported financially.

We are Evangelical

We believe it is the purpose and will of God for each individual to be a witness to the lost.  We believe in the spreading of the Gospel to a lost and dying world through example, preaching, and teaching. Salvation is through faith alone and not by any work or sacrament of the church.

We are Fundamental

We believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God.  It is relevant to all issues of life.  The Word of God must be lived up to, not made ineffective by watering down or by discarding chapters and verses of text to meet the needs of pagan, backslidden, or sinner man.  The wisdom and knowledge of God found in Scripture, not only addresses, but gives a clear answer to ALL of mankind's questions.

We are not bound by religious rhetoric, doctrinal indifference and traditions; rather we search God's Word for direction, inspiration and revelation.  We believe God's Word never changes and all wisdom and knowledge can be searched and found in the Holy Bible.  We believe the Word, coupled with faith, to be the master weapon in defeating our adversaries.

We are Spirit Filled

We believe that God is only limited by His own Word -- not time, dispensation, or any other manner.  Therefore, we acknowledge the moving of His Spirit in the local church as well as the lives of each Christian.  God still heals the sick, delivers the addicted, calms the fearful, protects the helpless, relieves the burdened, strengthens the weak, and gives peace to the confused through and by the power of His Spirit working alone or through the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Ghost.

The Church today has a clear mandate to continue teaching and ministering in the Power and Might of the Holy Ghost as we fully express faith in God through Christ Jesus our Savior.  No gift or manifestation of the Holy Ghost has been cancelled or suspended for this age or dispensation of Grace.  The gift of the Holy Ghost Baptism is for all Christians (those who are Born Again) at their request.

We are Holiness

We believe Holiness to be God's standard of living.  Garments, cosmetics, and jewelry do not define Holiness.  Holiness is simply the meek and humble expression of righteousness we exemplify to others, which we have obtained through Jesus Christ and HIS Righteousness only.  We believe that through the sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost, Christians that will yield to the Lord will make changes in their lives that personify the character and person of Christ.

As we pursue a life that seeks to emulate the person of Jesus Christ, the transition from worldliness and the carnal desires of our flesh must be replaced by a life of holiness unto our Lord.  This process is known as sanctification.

We are the Body of Christ

We believe that God has called all sinners to repentance and that their time, talent, and tithe is to be used for the building of the local church.  God expects and commands each saved soul in the church to find their place in the Body, that he or she may seek after fulfilling God's will through means that God has gifted them with.

Discipleship training is the thing which EVERY new believer should embark upon.  There are initial fundamentals of the Faith that should be learned very quickly.  There are initial questions that should be answered very soon.  There are practical truths found in God's Word that will strengthen, encourage and give insight into how to live, react, and deal with adversity, temptations and trials.
